A Curated List of Green Coffee and Roasted Coffee Favorites
Rounding up the best coffee beans of 2024 wasn’t easy. At Genuine Origin, we drink A LOT of incredible coffee, and narrowing it down was a challenge. The coffees we list below include not only the standout green coffee beans for sale in our store, but also some of the best roasted coffees we couldn’t stop sipping throughout the year. Our team picked out their favorites, top-quality unroasted coffee, along with a few exceptional roasted beans.
Navigating the Challenges of the Coffee Industry in 2024
Let’s face it, the global coffee market faced significant hurdles in 2024. Volatility in the C-Market, logistical challenges, and climate-related disruptions – they’ve all taken their toll. The price of coffee has fluctuated sharply, with the C-Market reaching a 13-year high.
Moreover, shipping disruptions have also plagued the coffee industry. Container shortages and logistical delays have slowed exports, particularly from Latin America. Port congestion and delayed farmer payments have created a domino effect, reducing export reliability. To make matters worse, a brief but impactful U.S. port strike earlier this year added to the backlog, making it even harder to move coffee efficiently across global markets.
Higher Coffee Prices and Limited Availability
Roasters and coffee consumers alike are feeling the impact of these disruptions. Coffee prices have risen, and availability has become more limited. These challenges are reshaping the coffee supply chain, putting pressure on producers and buyers alike. Yet, despite these obstacles, the industry is doubling down on sustainability. Producers and stakeholders are committed to innovation and the long-term viability of coffee production.

Jen Hurd’s Favorites – The Best Coffees of 2024
Haven Coffee Roasters: Special Edition Yaba Daba Brew from Campo Hermoso, Colombia – There’s no way I can give a list of favorite coffees this year without mentioning Haven Coffee Roasters in Florida. This was the Gold Medal Winner at the 2024 Golden Bean for filter coffee (I’m one of the head judges) and it was truly no contest for me. This coffee is STUNNING.
Costa Rica San Diego Tarrazú Natural Anaerobic – If we’ve chatted about coffee, I’ve probably waxed poetic about fruit-forward coffees and that I’m a sucker for hibiscus notes. We’ve had no shortage of interesting experimental processes, and this year’s anaerobic from our own mill in Costa Rica is an awesome coffee. Berries, spice, hibiscus, floral without being perfumey; it’s a can’t-miss coffee.
Ethiopia Organic Yirgacheffe Chelchele G2 Natural – I really wanted to pick an approachable, cozy coffee, but I just couldn’t leave out this Natural Yirgacheffe! It’s another one of my known biases: a fondness for G2 Yirgacheffe Naturals. It doesn’t matter how many times I cup (and I cup blind); I somehow always pick G2 Yirgacheffe Naturals as my favorite Ethiopian coffees. The Chelchele Natural is no exception. This coffee has so much going on; berry, sweetness, black tea and an overall balanced and complex cup.
The Best Green Coffee Beans of 2024 According to Jay
Coffee Project NY: Colombia Julio Cesar Madrid Nitro-Honey Caturra – This was one of the most memorable coffee experiences of the past year. The big, bold watermelon candy flavors leapt out of the cup, both in aroma and taste. I highly recommend this coffee.
Ethiopia Limu Feyisa Abamecha G2 Washed: This was one of my favorite Ethiopians of the past year. A beautiful blend of flavors—peach, honey, and citrus—that really stood out.
The Toasted Roasters: Honduras Reserva Guama Danta Organic: Guama Danta has been my go-to morning coffee since I started at GO – balanced in body and acidity, with notes of milk chocolate and apple. A great cup to start the day. (The unroasted green coffee beans are available at Genuine Origin and are one of the best green coffee beans for home roasting too!)
Cyndi Chirco’s Take on the Best Coffee Beans for Sale in 2024
I’ve been enjoying my fair share of uniquely processed coffees this year alongside a few, what I call, cozy coffees.
Black & White Roasters: The Future Fruit Cake blend from Costa Rica, Colombia, and Uganda – This coffee just arrived at my house a few days ago and I just had to include it. Rarely does a coffee check all the boxes for me. This blend has it all, a little funk, fruit, and spice. While I cannot say that I enjoy eating fruitcake, this combination of flavors in a coffee is simply delightful. It’s a blend of three coffees – two co-ferments and a washed.
Superthing Coffee Roasters: Colombia Finca La Reserva Anaerobic Honey Processed Geisha – Big in the cup! This coffee wowed me with its striking acidity, punchy fruit notes, and complex florals. Its body is smooth and delicate, just like you’d expect from a high-end geisha. (Another GO offering for green coffee beans you can buy online!)
Organic Peru Minca G1 Washed – A coffee I could drink all day, every day. Incredibly balanced with notes of dark chocolate, stone fruit, almond and citrus. For me this coffee really popped as a medium roast.
Mexico Los Altos Tzeltal Washed – Don’t overlook coffees from Mexico! They are super versatile and are great in blends or as a single origin offering. I’ve really been enjoying our Mexico Los Altos Tzeltal. It’s a lovely morning coffee with a crisp acidity, milk chocolate, and apricot flavor notes. It’s got a nice sweetness with the slightest hint of floral.
Joylight Coffee Roasters: China Yunnan 30-day Natural Anaerobic – This coffee has a candy-like fruity sweetness that tastes as good as it smells. When you brew a cup of this, the entire kitchen fills up with its wonderful aroma. In the cup it’s bold, bright, sweet, with notes of tropical fruit, strawberry candy, and baker’s chocolate.
Steven Edwards’ Best Green and Roasted Coffee Picks for 2024
Verb Coffeee Roasters: Colombia Gloria Cecilia Chiroso Washed – Verb is an top-tier team of coffee people in Boulder, Colorado just a stone’s throw away from the Flat Iron Mountains. They have a colorful little shop where I sat at the bar and watched this coffee prepared with an Origami dripper. The Chiroso variety has gotten very popular this year for good reason! Their listed notes are star anise, fudge, and grapefruit. In addition to those, I tasted honey, mandarin orange, with some brown sugar and clove.
Monogram Coffee: Finca Takesi Bolivia Gesha Washed – We met tons of roasters at SCA Expo in Chicago this year, and this team of friendly Canadians traveled stateside to brew a bunch of coffees that linger in my brain to this day. Seeing a Gesha from Bolivia is relatively uncommon, so I did not know what to expect. It blew my mind! I tasted layers of tropical fruit like mango and pineapple, with orange blossom and sweet black tea finish.
Mexico Los Altos Tzeltal Washed – I was eagerly anticipating this coffee after tasting the pre-ship samples that our QC team sent to us. The good news is, with 55 boxes left, you can still score some for yourself! This coffee is a joy to drink. It’s very layered. I tasted lemonade, sugarcane, apricot, caramel, and described it as citrusy & zesty. Get it while you can! This is a sleeper hit at a value. (With two thumbs up from both Cyndi and Steven, it’s safe to say GO’s Mexico Los Altos is one of the best green coffee beans for sale in 2024!)
Colombia Organic Tolima Multicoop-Asojuntas – The genre of nice, organic washed Colombian coffees are a favorite of many for good reason. You can do a lot with these coffees, from any shade of roasting, to blending and more. Our Organic Tolima was a flavor bomb this year. I tasted raspberry, pear, orange blossom, apricot, caramel, and it had a nice honeyed tangy finish. Every sip was a gift that kept on giving! It sold out quickly – to no one’s surprise, but we have a little under 100 boxes coming in December if you missed the first shipment. Do yourself a favor and reserve some boxes.
