Cultivar

A cultivated coffee plant variety bred for specific traits i.e. disease resistance, flavor profile, or yield. Also referred to as “varietal” or “botanical origin.” Knowing which cultivar they’re dealing with helps roasters anticipate how the beans will respond to roasting and what flavor profiles to focus on. This can lead to a more controlled and complex cup for consumers.
